Shadow Pandemic: Hidden Voices

As part of the international project Shadow Pandemic: Hidden Voices, the Maribor Theatre Festival is organizing a series of free theatre workshops for youth aged 14-18. The theme of this workshop, which will take place on Thursday 19 January 2023 at 3 p.m. at the Chamber Stage of the Maribor National Theatre, is drama as a form and will introduce you to the specific features of the dramatic text as a literary genre and the elements that must be included in the chosen dramatic work. The workshop will be led by Ivana Vuković, dramaturge of the project, and Mateja Kokol, theatre pedagogue and mentor, director. 

This is the second in a series of five free theatre workshops that give youth a comprehensive insight into the making of a play, from following the artistic team as they study the play to the behind-the-scenes production processes, while at the same time introducing them to the issue of violence against women.

The two-year international project Shadow Pandemic: Hidden Voices is carried out by the Maribor Theater Festival in cooperation with the Zagreb Youth Theatre and the Belgrade Drama Theatre. It addresses the problem of violence against women during the closure of public life due to the coronavirus pandemic. The main aim of the project is to raise awareness of this issue among the general public and youth through a series of project activities, including an open call for new plays, a series of five workshops with young people, and a theatrical performance of the plays selected in the open call, directed by theatre director Selma Spahić. Attendance at the first workshop, held in November 2022, is not a prerequisite for participation in this and subsequent workshops.
